Facebook more than doubles Zuckerberg compensation to.6 million

Facebook on Friday revealed that it spent $20 million on the personal security of CEO Mark Zuckerberg, as per an SEC filing.

Hastings is stepping down because he has had a long run on the board and as Facebook spends more time focused on video the social network is becoming more competitive with Netflix, said a person familiar with the decision who asked not to be identified because the issue is private. That included a new $10 million pre-tax allowance for additional security costs such as security guards, equipment, services and residential improvements.

Neither Hastings nor businessman and political figure Erskine Bowles, who have been on the board since 2011, will be nominated for re-election at an annual shareholders meeting on May 30, Facebook said in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. He also did not receive bonuses or stock awards in 2018.

Facebook's current board members include Zuckerberg, Bowles, Chenault, Hastings, Marc Andreessen (Andreessen Horowitz), Sue Desmond-Hellmann, MD, MPH (CEO at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation), Sheryl Sandberg (Facebook COO), Peter Thiel (Clarium Capital and The Founders Fund), and Jeffrey D. Zients (Cranemere Group CEO).

Facebook has a broad security operation, which is known to track the locations of specific users that the company has deemed to be threats to Facebook and its executives. Zuckerberg also received $2.6m for personal use of private jets, which the company said was part of his overall security program.

The company is entering the second year of a seemingly non-stop series of scandals.

Facebook has in the past few years faced public outcry over its role in Russia's alleged influence on the 2016 USA presidential election and has come under fire following revelations that Cambridge Analytica obtained personal data from millions of Facebook profiles without consent. Those events have drawn a large amount of exposure for the company and its 34-year-old co-founder.

Zuckerberg is one of the richest people in the world and is worth just over $70 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire's index.
