Accompanying her will be Mark Green, administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Ivanka is due to visit Ethiopia and Ivory Coast over the next four days and is flying commercial, rather than using a US State Department aircraft.

The First Daughter touched down in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, early Sunday and took to Instagram to share photos of her first meeting as the head of WGDPI.

Weld has not won a political race since being re-elected governor by a landslide in his heavily Democratic state in 1994. He was born in Smithton New York and studied at Harvard University.

Mr Trump, however, upset many in the continent past year after he reportedly used the word "shithole" to describe African nations.

Later in the trip, she plans to meet with Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The first daughter will be joined in the Ivory Coast by a congressional delegation that will include Sen.

Launched in February, the Women's Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) initiative aims to train women worldwide to help them get well-paying jobs.

However, Ivanka Trump's efforts could be complicated by the President's own remarks after his private comments about "s***hole countries" in Africa and other regions were leaked to journalists.

Daniel Runde, of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said Ivanka Trump was strategically building on the work of past administrations, calling her an effective "goodwill ambassador" for the issues, and a smart emissary to send to Africa.

Marakle Tesfaye, an activist, said, however, "I think she's coming genuinely to empower women and it's good that she's coming because she will push forward our agenda".

Ivanka Trump, who has been successful in fashion business, is estimated to have net worth $300 million, while her husband Jared Kushner, who runs real-estate business, could be $800 million, according to USA media reports. "Ivanka Trump is playing a similar role to the role that Secretary Clinton played".
