Jeremy Corbyn Defends Isis Bride Shamima Begum's Legal Aid Bid

Daesh bride Shamima Begum will be given legal aid money from the taxpayer's pocket to challenge the United Kingdom government's decision to remove her British citizenship, according to the Daily Mail.

The 19-year-old said she had fled the caliphate but had previously been living in Raqqa, where she married a Dutch IS fighter called Yago Riedijk, who later surrendered to Syrian fighters.

Many reacted furiously by the decision to reward aid from the Legal Aid Agency (LAA), on the same day it was alleged Begum stitched suicide bombers into explosive vests. "Obviously the decision about whether she accesses legal aid or not has to be done independently".

Dozens of other people have been stripped of their British citizenship in the past few years.

Now 19, Begum resurfaced when she told journalists earlier this year that she wanted to return home - the United Kingdom responded by revoking her citizenship.

After nearly four years, a Times journalist found her in a refugee camp in northern Syria where she was being housed with other wives and children of IS fighters as the terror group clung to its land stronghold of Baghuz.

"How she has been allowed to sponge off taxpayers" money to get back into a country that she hates is absolutely ridiculous'.

The Mail has reported that Ms Begum has been granted legal aid to help challenge that order. "I've always applied it on the strict advice (of lawyers) that when the power is deployed with respect to that individual they already have more than one citizenship", Javid told the UK Parliament's Home Affairs Select Committee last month, when called in to explain his decision to revoke Begum's citizenship.

He told Today Begum should have legal aid to make sure the correct process is followed.

Relatives seeking a civil action against Downey had their requests for legal aid rejected five times before the LAA chose to grant the cash. She has joined a terrorist organisation and left the country and she gets legal aid'.

Jade Moore then saw her spot-kick saved by Anna Moorhouse, allowing Cho So-hyun to score to secure victory for the Hammers. The experienced Fara Williams then had the chance to score the victor from 12 yards out, but agonisingly clipped the post.

Mark Tipper, whose brother Trooper Simon Tipper was killed in the 1982 Hyde Park bombing, is among critics who have condemned the move as "absolutely disgusting", according to the Daily Mail.

The Labour leader said that, whatever crimes Begum was accused of after she left the United Kingdom to marry an Islamic State fighter in Syria, she was entitled to proper legal representation.

Shamima Begum headed for Syria with two other female friends in 2015 at the age of 15.

But Mr Corbyn said Mr Javid's decision in February to remove her citizenship was "very questionable", adding: 'She is a British national and, therefore, she has that right, like any of us do, to apply for legal aid if she has a problem.

Still, lawyers argue that regardless of the personalities involved, cutting edge human rights issues are precisely what legal aid should be funding.

The UK's Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt told the BBC on Monday that reports of Begum receiving such aid made him feel "very uncomfortable".

"However, we are a country that believes that people with limited means should have access to the resources of the state if they want to challenge the decisions the state has made about them and, for obvious reasons, those decisions are made independent from politicians, he said".

Begum's brother-in-law Muhammad Rahman, 36, said of the public outrage: 'I understand that view and people are entitled to it.

The legal aid that has been granted covers a case before the semi-secret Special Immigration Appeals Commission, which adjudicates on cases where the home secretary has stripped someone of their nationality on grounds of national security.
