Dame Joan Collins is "unhurt" but "obviously shaken up and distressed" after discovering a fire in the Central London apartment she shares with husband of 17 years Percy Gibson Saturday, People Magazine reports. "They both escaped safely, very shaken and upset and firemen eventually put fire out". Joan smelt [sic] some smoke and Percy went out to investigate. What he found was that their guest suite was ablaze.

Film legend Joan can be heard muttering "oh God" in a video shared on Instagram that shows the devastating damage to her flat.

"A fire did break out yesterday at Joan's London apartment when she and her husband were home". The Oscars are presented for outstanding individual or collective efforts in 24 categories in filmmaking.

London Fire Brigade said: "Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Eaton Place in Belgravia".

"The brigade was called at 4.28pm and the fire was under control by 5.36pm".

The couple are doing well and will return to their apartment soon to assess the damage, the rep confirmed.

The firefighters' social media account replied saying they were glad to have helped but were "so sorry you had experience this".

"THANK U from the bottom of my to the marvelous @LondonFire who attended to the terrifying fire yesterday in our flat".

The Golden Globe-winning actor was treated for smoke inhalation but otherwise escaped unscathed - thanks to her keen nose and quick-thinking husband, Percy Gibson, the rep said, according to the New York Post. Within an hour, they were able to extinguish the blaze.

A police source told the BBC that the fire had was "non-suspicious".
