Journalist Jamal Khashoggi's children paid by kingdom

Children of slain journalist offered million-dollar houses in Saudi Arabia and monthly payments for death of father

The homes are located in Jiddah, Saudi Arabia, and are worth up to $4 million. His brother, Abdullah, and two sisters have been given houses together in a different compound.

The monthly payments of $10,000 to each of Khashoggi's four children were approved in 2018 by bin Salman and were allegedly part of a compensation settlement from the government - as well as encouragement for the family to stay quiet in their criticism of the kingdom.

Another Saudi official who spoke to The Post denied that the payments were made with an agenda, and said they were part of the Kingdom's "custom and culture" of offering financial support to victims of a violent crime.

Saudi Arabia acknowledged the killing in October and said it fired five top officials and arrested 18 Saudis as part of the initial investigation into the murder.

Despite his slaying and reports that the Saudi government was integrally involved in his death, Khashoggi's children have refrained from making public statements condemning the government.

China’s manufacturing industry experiences growth
The Caixin PMI is a private survey focusing on smaller businesses and offers a first glimpse into the operating environment. March manufacturing PMI for the bloc declined for an eighth month, coming in at 47.5, the lowest reading since April 2013.

In the same month, Khashoggi's two daughters wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post in which they praised their father's legacy but did not criticize the Saudi government or its alleged involvement in Khashoggi's death. The others, who live in the United States, plan to sell the Jeddah homes they were given, the insiders say.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) concluded that the Crown Prince had ordered Khashoggi's killing, but US President Donald Trump refused to accept verdict about, saying, "Maybe he did, maybe he didn't".

The security chief for Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon and current owner of The Washington Post, has openly accused the Saudi kingdom of hacking his phone in retaliation for the newspaper's coverage of Khashoggi's murder. "If being a writer was ingrained in his identity, being a Saudi was part of that same grain".

The Post says it's unclear whether or not the siblings would have to offer forgiveness to their father's killers.

Former Saudi officials and experts said the royal court and government have incentives to seek such an agreement and avoid a situation in which only low-level operatives are executed for their role in a plot that was developed and orchestrated from high levels of government. Khashoggi's children could have to absolve the killers to collect the money.
