Ezekiel Hicks 25 is accused of shooting a man in the head at a Florida Waffle House

A man paying for people's meals and giving out cash at a Florida Waffle House was fatally shot by another customer, according to multiple reports.

According to a press release from the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, Craig Brewer was gunned down at around 3am on Sunday at the Waffle House on Newbury Road in Gainesville, located about four miles from the University of Florida campus. At one point, Hicks left the Waffle House and retrieved a 9mm Glock pistol, which was later recovered at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.

Witnesses cited by ABC News said the victim was arguing with a female acquaintance of the suspect. Deputies believe the woman got angry that Brewer's generosity did not extend to her. Deputies said when Hicks returned he physically fought with Brewer before shooting him a few times, including in the head.

The incident took place just after 3am Sunday, per the Alachua County Sheriff. "Dude got shot in the head".

As the fracas continued, Hicks allegedly pulled the handgun from his trousers and shot Brewer in the head in an attack that was captured on surveillance footage, authorities said.

"A dude in a big shirt, a really big dude in a green shirt came in, shot some dude in the head and ran away", a caller told a 911 dispatcher, according to WCJB.

Hicks was arrested near the restaurant.

Hicks was immediately arrested and charged with premeditated first-degree murder and carrying a concealed, unlicensed firearm.

The entire incident was caught on a security camera inside the restaurant.

"The evidence in the case is fairly straightforward", Rhodenizer said.

The sheriff's office is continuing to investigate whether the altercation prompted the shooting or whether Hicks and Brewer knew one another prior to the incident.
