Though Marleau was fine, Kadri immediately jumped in to retaliate against DeBrusk and cross-checked him in the face.

Several Maple Leafs players made available after Saturday's game said they did not see Kadri's hit on DeBrusk from a proper angle and therefore did not want to comment on it. Toronto now leads the series 1-0 after its 4-1 victory over the Bruins Thursday. Game 3 is Monday in Toronto. Kadri was given a five-minute major for cross-checking and a game misconduct.

Boston will make at least one lineup change, as head coach Bruce Cassidy indicated that veteran David Backes will play in Game 2.

In last year's playoffs, Kadri was suspended three games for boarding Boston forward Tommy Wingels.

Columbus and St. Louis have surprised many by winning the first two games on the road to take a commanding lead in their first-round series against Tampa Bay and Winnipeg. That hit bore a strong resemblance to that of Kucherov and was met with harsh discipline from NHL Player Safety.

Kadri's hit did not earn him a match penalty, but it may well earn him a suspension.

Boston came out of the gate with a objective, hitting every Toronto player in sight and building a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes inside an electric TD Garden.

The date and time of Kadri's hearing has not yet been determined.

"It was kind of in a blind spot for us on the bench", winger Zach Hyman said.

Kadri and DeBrusk had been battling all game, and emotions began to boil over in the second period when Kadri went down after a knee-on-knee collision with his opponent.

"Judging by the way Naz went down, it didn't seem great", Toronto defenseman Morgan Rielly said".

"As a kid I just always stirred it up like that and always thought it tastes better", said the 21-year-old.

"I'm not sure there is an answer", Kadri said regarding how to stop Marner. Looking back on it, shoulder to shoulder. Obviously Kadri stayed down. "I mean that's his prerogative when you get hit".
