Max pilot training should include flight simulator time, Marc Garneau says

"We are making steady progress toward certification", Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg said in a video on his Twitter account.

Air Canada said it was the only carrier in the United States and Canada with 737 Max simulators.

Boeing said on Wednesday it was making "steady progress" on the path to certifying the software update and had made the final test flight before a certification flight. "Yesterday we completed the official engineering flight test of the updated software with our technical and engineering leaders on board the airplane".

The Boeing CEO recently flew on a 737 MAX test flight, where he personally experienced the updated software.

"More than 85 percent of the 50-plus MAX operators around the globe also have had the opportunity to see the update in action during simulator sessions", added Muilenberg.

Executives said they are covering most Max flights by using spare jets and deferring maintenance jobs such as WiFi installations and paint jobs on other planes - not safety-related items, they said.

Renders of Apple's rear-facing triple camera system recently hit the web and the feedback hasn't exactly been positive. Both of these models will apparently use a 12MP sensor with ultra-wide lens manufactured exclusively by Sony.

Battling its biggest crisis in years, the world's largest aircraft manufacturer is under pressure to convince global regulators that the aircraft can be safely recertified to fly again.

Investigators have zeroed in on the system as a factor behind the Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines crashes.

In both cases, it is likely to be a chain of events in which MCAS played a part but was not exclusively responsible for the end result. According to Reuters, the company has been reprogramming 737 Max software so that it won't set off the anti-stall operation in error.

But comments by Canada's Transport Minister on Thursday about proposed changes to MAX training suggest the road to redemption may have a few potholes.
