Arie Irawan died in his hotel room on the Chinese resort island of Hainan

Malaysian professional golfer Arie Irawan Ahmad is reported to have died at his hotel of apparent natural causes. "The coroner has not completed his report", the PGA Tour statement said.

Irawan had missed the cut at the Sanya Championship, but had remained on island over the weekend. The former national No.1 was in China to compete in the Sanya Championship, a PGA Tour Series China event but missed the cut on Friday.

According to the PGA Tour, "His roommate, American Kevin Techakanokboon, who had already awoken and was getting ready for his final round, noticed Irawan was unresponsive in his bed".

The PGA Tour and the China Golf Association have expressed grief over the death their playing member.

The final round of the tournament was cancelled after Irawan's death, with Trevor Sluman awarded the title after leading through three rounds. Irawan was pronounced dead after 45 minutes of revival efforts. Thank you China PGA.
