Murray State: All-American Morant will enter NBA draft

He took home Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year honors and, on Tuesday, he became the first Murray State player to be named to the AP All-American first-team.

Murray State star guard Ja Morant announced during a press conference Wednesday that he is declaring for the June 20 NBA Draft.

A 6-foot-3 point guard, Morant flew under the radar for a while as a prospect.

He added that he would be signing with an agent, which would preclude him from regaining his college eligibility.

Tankathon's mock draft now projects that Morant will be the No. 2 overall pick if the lottery plays out based on the current standings. He's known more as a shot-maker than a facilitator, posting three games this season with at least 33 points.

"After the season, me and my parents just took some time and talked over everything", Morant said.

Morant was the only Racers player, who averaged 20-plus points per game.

To those who follow the sport, Morant was already a household name, but his profile elevated with his tournament performance and further cemented his status as one of the nation's best players - and National Basketball Association prospects. He completed his sophomore season before entering the draft.

-Vanderbilt freshman post player Simi Shittu announced he will enter the draft and hire an agent, which would eliminate his option to return to school.

In that game he put up 17 points, 16 assists and 11 rebounds. Recent mock drafts from ESPN and The Athletic pegged Reid for the middle of the second round, while noting his upside. The South Carolina native has all the tools to succeed in the NBA and will be one of the first names called in the 2019 NBA Draft.
