Netflix's Cowboy Bebop Live-Action Cast to Be Led by John Cho

In an inspired piece of casting, John Cho has been cast as Spike Siegel, the bounty hunter who leads a motley crew aboard the spaceship Bebop, in the live-action adaptation of the seminal genre-bending anime series created by Shinichiro Watanabe. In addition to his movie roles in the Star Trek and Harold & Kumar films, some of Cho's recent television projects have included The Exorcist, Go On, and Selfie, and he will star in an upcoming episode of CBS All Access' The Twilight Zone. The live-action series could also be taking the stance that a former mafia enforcer like Spike definitely wouldn't be living under his real name after trying to cut ties to a violent criminal organization.

But aside from Cho, Luke Cage's own Bushmaster Mustafa Shakir has been slotted into the keenly anticipated series as Jet Black, an "honest cop" and Spike's foil.

DANIELLA PINEDA (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom; What/If) as Faye Valentine: Faye Valentine is a bold, brash and unpredictable bounty hunter.

ALEX HASSELL (The Red Sea Diving Resort; Suburbicon) as Vicious: A man who thoroughly enjoys a good kill, Vicious is the Syndicate's most notorious hitman.

It's an odd omission, since even though anime Ed doesn't join the cast until several episodes into the series (and checks out before the final one), she's got a significant amount of screen time, and plays a key role in numerous group's episodic adventures. Radical Ed will reportedly be hacking in but that role is still to be cast, and so far there's nary a mention of loveable corgi Ein.

Cowboy Bebop first premiered in 1998 and tells the story of The Bebop crew, intergalactic loners who team up to track down fugitives and turn them in for cold hard cash.

John Cho is getting ready to jam on Netflix.

The original Cowboy Bebop is a cult favorite among anime fans, a sci-fi noir series about a spacefaring crew of eccentric bounty hunters.
