Island Health confirms a third measles case on the South Island

Island Health has confirmed another case of measles, less than a week after the first two cases of 2019 were confirmed.

Island Health says anyone who was in the Beacon Community Services Thrift Store and the Fairway Market on Saanich Road in Victoria last Saturday between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. may have been exposed.

Island Health confirms a person in the region has developed the highly infectious disease, pushing the number of cases to three, although officials say the latest one does not appear related to the two confirmed last week.

Symptoms Island Health says people should watch for 21 days after possible exposure include fever, runny nose, sore throat, cough, diarrhea and red eyes.

Anyone born before 1970 has a natural immunity to the disease.
