It is reported that the former Manchester United player has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a woman.

"A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning", it read.

It's alleged that Scholes placed 140 bets on football matches, contrary to FA Rule E8, between 17 August 2015 and 12 January 2019.

The Mirror reports Butt, 44, who is now head of the club's youth academy, was led away from his home in Hale, Greater Manchester this afternoon.

"Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1086 of 16/04/19 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111".
