In the old days, bilateral USA -U.K. talks would be all about counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, NATO, Russia and China - and the special relationship.

Speaking on the eve of her visit, she said there would be "no chance whatsoever" of a post-Brexit trade deal between the U.S. and United Kingdom if there were any weakening of the Good Friday Agreement.

"That's just not in the cards if there is any harm done to the Good Friday accords".

The high-ranking group of USA politicians will meet Irish prime minister Leo Varadkar on Tuesday afternoon, while Pelosi will speak to Irish parliament and meet the Irish president on Wednesday.

UUP peer Lord Empey - who was party's lead negotiator on the parts of the agreement which set up Northern Ireland's government structures - hit out at her for her "complete misunderstanding" of the 1998 deal.

The Californian politician also laid out her plan to help the Democrats win the 2020 election in 2019. The accord ended 30 years of sectarian strife, known as "the Troubles", that left 3,500 soldiers, police officers and civilians dead.

"The EU is likewise a brutal trading partner with the United States, which will change".

"This isn't for us an issue or an agreement".

Tánaiste Simon Coveney told the same lunch gathering that Ireland respects the UK's decision to leave the Uion.

The future of the Northern Ireland border will be a particular focus, with Pelosi seeking to express "America's commitment to a peaceful and prosperous future" for all those who live in the two countries.

In London, Pelosi stressed that getting a trade bill through Congress is "no given" at any time.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said there would be "no chance" of US-UK trade deal if Brexit undermines Ireland's Good Friday Agreement in any way.

"This is not a treaty only". It is a value.

"I thought one of the biggest opportunities was for the U.S. and the European Union to join together - the biggest market in the world, the two combined - and use that leverage in negotiations with the Chinese", Pelosi said. "And we don't want that model to be something that can be bargained away in some other agreement" - a reference, of course, to Brexit.
