Quicken Loans Arena to be Renamed Rocket Mortgage Field House A New Identity for a Transformed Arena

CLEVELAND- A league source told FOX 8 News on Monday evening that Quicken Loans Arena will be renamed.

The arena is nearing the home stretch of a $185 million renovation, $115 million of which was financed by the Cavs, that includes a glass facade, an atrium that will add 42,530 square feet of public space and gathering spots such as the South neighborhood, which debuted in February. The original naming rights deal with Quicken Loans, according to sources, was extended in 2018, and the deal with Rocket Mortgage will represent a lucrative longer-term extension.

Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com indicates that the Cavaliers issued a press release stating that a "major announcement" would be part of the event.

Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, president Len Komoroski, Quicken Loans CEO Jay Farner, Cavs GM Koby Altman, County Executive Armond Budish and Mayor Frank Jackson will assemble tomorrow afternoon to make the announcement.

Big 8th inning lifts Cubs over Brewers
Given the Cubs excellent offense to start the season, Chicago's 1-6 start can be laid directly at the feet of the pitching staff. Bastian was among those to report that the club has promoted lefty Kyle Ryan and selected Allen Webster from AAA Iowa.

Best known as "The Q", the 19,000-seat arena, which hosted the Republican National Convention in 2016, was previously known as Gund Arena before Gilbert bought the building and team for $375 million from Gordon Gund in 2005.

This is also the first instance (among the four major professional sports) of an arena being named for a company's product, not the company itself.

The Cavs will play their final home game of the season Tuesday night against the Charlotte Hornets. The arena will close in May to complete the renovation in time for the grand-opening on September 30.
