Apple's next-generation iPhone lineup could feature 12-megapixel front-facing cameras for even sharper selfies, according to one reliable analyst.

Credit: Tom's GuideWhile a trio of lenses should mean great things for photography, many mockup artists have predicted it will manifest itself in the form of a monstrosity of a camera module on the new iPhone.

The jump in resolution should lead to an improvement in quality and sharpness. Both of these models will apparently use a 12MP sensor with ultra-wide lens manufactured exclusively by Sony.

Renders of Apple's rear-facing triple camera system recently hit the web and the feedback hasn't exactly been positive.

Kuo says all three flagship devices - successors to the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR - will "likely upgrade to triple-camera and dual-camera, respectively".

Apple's 6.1-inch iPhone will get a second camera on the back, like the current XS models. The three-camera system might end up looking more like a high-end sensor panel. We can expect these selfie cameras to be bumped up to 12MP resolution while maintaining the same pixel size. Interestingly, that is a lower resolution than the 16MP ultra-wide angle sensor used by Samsung on the Galaxy S10 series and the 20MP shooter found on the P30 series.

Analysts predict that in order to make the lens look less obvious, Apple's new iPhone 2019 rear-mounted super wide-angle lens and front lens will use black mirror coating technology.
