Ben & Jerry's is upping the ante on "Free Cone Day" around the world by presenting free ice cream cones to their customers with absolutely no hidden information in the fine print.

Though lines may be intimidatingly long, they'll probably move fast because only ice cream is being exchanged, Ben & Jerry's officials said.

The annual giveaway is happening at ice cream shops from noon to 8 p.m. around the country, including in Boston, Cambridge, Revere and Natick.

2019 marks the 40th year that the Vermont-based ice cream makers have offered a Free Cone Day, which began in 1979 at the original Burlington, Vermont location. A few tips for Free Cone Day: have a short list of flavors to try, ask questions and remember you can order as many cones as you want, you just have to get back in line each time.

Co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield's idea turned into an annual - and now global - event with over a million scoops handed out worldwide each April.

"We're nothing without our fans", Ben & Jerry's CEO Matthew McCarthy said in the statement. "This is one of our favorite days of the year". Usually, people are allowed to have one free cone but at Ben & Jerry's they made a decision to change things up a little. "It's all about saying thank you to our fans".

There are 10 Ben & Jerry's stores throughout MA, according to the company's scoop shop locator.
