Slack announces a collection of Microsoft Office 365 apps

Slack and Microsoft compete head-to-head in the group-chat space. With the new Slack add-on for Outlook, you will be able to forward emails from Outlook right into your Slack channels.

Slack today announced the availability of three new Microsoft Office 365 apps for Slack.

Reminders to join Skype, Webex or Zoom meetings will also appear and the Outlook calendar app will now be able to set your Slack status automatically based on your calendar including setting "out of office" as your status if it has been enabled in Outlook.

Slack also is updating its OneDrive app for Slack to make sharing and collaborating on files stored in OneDrive easier. Slack is providing its users with dedicated Slack add-ins to connect to Outlook and OneDrive using Slack so that they can check calendars and share email attachments more seamlessly. Talking about previews, Slack now lets you get full previews of Office files like Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations right from Slack itself without needing to download the files. Slack already has done integrations in the email space with Google.

Holy-day! Madonna is confirmed to perform at Eurovision in Tel Aviv
As the American superstar now lives in Lisbon, fans were hoping to see her appearance in Portugal past year as well. Madonna's press team confirmed the news to the BBC, but Eurovision organisers have downplayed the story.

In an interview with GeekWire, Andy Pflaum, Slack's director of product management, said competition isn't a factor when working on new integrations. Even though Slack is battling Microsoft's collaboration hub Teams, the company will have to work with applications from partners and competitors alike, should it want to fulfill its goal of simplifying work for users of all types.

Pflaum came over to Slack previous year when the company acquired Astro Technology, a startup that focuses on transferring conversations from email to Slack.

"Our customers wanted improved integrations with the Office 365 suite", says Brian Elliott, Vice President and General Manager of the Slack Platform.
