The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a tsunami warning after a 6.9 magnitude quake struck Morowali, Central Sulawesi on Friday evening at 6:40 p.m.

A tsunami warning issued after a 6.8 magnitude quake struck off Sulawesi island in Indonesia has been lifted, the country's geophysics agency said.

A 7.5-magnitude quake hit the other side of Sulawesi a year ago, triggering a tsunami which hit the city of Palu and killed more than 4,300 people.

The tsunami warning has been issued and some residents in central Sulawesi were advised to evacuate, Reuters reported citing local official. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties but the USGS warned that considerable damage was possible in poorly built or badly designed structures.
