Tiger Woods's fifth career Masters win on Sunday might have earned him even more than just his 15th major championship.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is among the highest awards given to civilians in the United States.

Previous recipients include Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali, Jesse Owens, Billie Jean King and fellow golfers Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer.

The scandals have engulfed even bishops and cardinals and shaken the trust of the countless rank-and-file faithful in the church. Worshippers carried palm fronds and olive branches and marched from the top of the Mount of Olives to the Old City of Jerusalem.

The president is an avid golfer who played a round with Woods at Trump's golf club in Jupiter, Florida, in February.

Former President Barack Obama also congratulated the athlete. His career was derailed for almost a decade after a series of personal scandals and several back surgeries that raised doubts about whether he would ever be able to play again.

Mr. Trump owns a dozen golf courses in the USA and frequently spends his weekends at his clubs in Florida, Virginia or New Jersey.

"Love people who are great under pressure", he wrote after Woods won his first Masters title since 2005. Three of them - Pro Football Hall of Famers Roger Staubach and Alan Page as well as Major League Baseball legend Babe Ruth - are most famous for their athletic achievements. "What a fantastic life comeback for a really great guy!" It was a conquest over physical injuries, personal demons and other problems largely of his own making.
