Workers trapped in Sydney scaffolding collapse

A major rescue operation is under way after scaffolding collapsed at a Sydney worksite, with one man pulled from the rubble and another still trapped.

Due to the amount of debris at the scene, rescue crews sadly had difficulty reaching the apprentice.

A rescue operation is now underway to access the trapped workers.

Firemen are using a specialist rescue vehicle to try to get to the men.

Apprentice Christopher Cassantiti was reported to have fallen from a height of nearly eight-storeys when a large section of scaffolding suddenly collapsed at Macquarie Park worksite.

Emergency services were called to the site on Epping Road at Macquarie Park at about 12:20pm after two men were trapped under eight floors of collapsed scaffolding.

'It's believed two workers are trapped; however, crews have not yet been able to access them, and their conditions aren't known.

Drivers are being told to avoid the area if possible.
