Fugitive says he'll surrender if people like wanted poster

Man on the run from police says he will turn himself in if he gets 15000 Facebook likes

A CT police department has reached a deal with a fugitive that would have him surrender if enough people respond to a wanted poster on social media, an agreement that at least one expert calls unethical.

Officials, making a plea for likes and shares, also posted a wanted poster for Kristopher Waananen, 36, who is wanted after he allegedly failed to stop for police.

Police say there are seven arrest warrants for 29-year-old fugitive Jose Simms, who is believed to be somewhere in NY after failing to appear in court.

"Here's an interesting one", a lieutenant with the department began the post.

Getting 15,000 likes on the post "will be hard but is doable", the post reads.

According to the Facebook post, Simms wanted 20,000 likes, while police proposed 10,000; in the spirit of compromise, they ultimately agreed on the figure precisely between the two.

They can live up to an average of 30 years, according to the university with those in captivity sometimes reaching 60 years old. According The Pantagraph , Tetzloff said that the Bird's broken leg left the zoo no choice but to euthanize the animal.

They urged anyone with information on Simms' whereabouts to contact the police and "save everyone from the suspense".

Jose even commented on the post.

Some Facebook users got a kick out of the department's modern-day way to catch a criminal. "Only 13800 more likes to go nice job Torrington".

"He's probably lying. That's what the bad guys do...but, you never know", Tina Coudriet commented, prompting the police department to reply: "Thanks Tina, we can hope he stays true to his word".

Simms' records vary from misdemeanor breach of peace and motor vehicle charges to risk of injury to a child.

The request for "likes" was posted on the City of Torrington Police Department's Facebook page on Wednesday morning; by 6 p.m. the post had roughly 11,000.
