Houthis Threaten Attacks On 300+ Saudi, UAE Oil Targets

The Houthi rebels in Yemen said over the weekend that last week's attack on an Aramco oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia was the start of military operations against some 300 vital military targets in the Kingdom and in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Foreign Office, in a statement today, issued its condemnation and also commended Saudi forces for their "vigilant" defence.

"Pakistan reaffirms its solidarity with Saudi Arabia and reiterates its support against any threat to the security of the kingdom", it added.

Riyadh had intercepted on Monday the missiles in Makkah fired by the Iran-aligned fighters.

Imam-i-Kaaba, Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman ibn Abdul Aziz Al Sudais, denounced the targeting of Jeddah and Taif in Makkah province with ballistic missiles, terming it an act of blatant aggression carried out by "a body with no principle or religion". The alleged attack has come after Saudi Arabia blamed Houthi rebels last week for attacking its oil pumping stations with explosive-laden drones.

Saudi-owned Al Arabiya TV, citing eyewitnesses, reported earlier on Monday that air defence forces had intercepted two ballistic missiles above the two western cities of Jeddah and Taif and said the first one had been directed towards Mecca, without providing evidence.

Rights campaigners say the weapons contravene a United Nations treaty because they might be used against civilians in Yemen, where a Saudi-led military coalition is battling the Iran-backed Houthis in a war that has killed thousands.

The Houthis denied having taken aim at Islam's holiest site.

Saudi Arabia has called for urgent meetings of the regional Gulf Cooperation Council and the Arab League to discuss escalating tensions in the Gulf, the Saudi official news agency said on Saturday.
