James Harden, Chris Paul Had Verbal Altercation After Rockets' Season-Ending Loss

It's hard to say which one was worse. The difference is they lost a round and game earlier than past year, and they went down in Games 5 and 6 despite Golden State not having Kevin Durant.

It's easy to see how such a loss could cause some frustration to boil over. The two stars of the team, Kevin Durant and Chris Paul were given a heavy dose of the blame for the loss and many felt they didn't do enough to give their team a spot in the Western Conference Finals. Paul averaged 15.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists this season while Harden led the team with 36.1 points, 6.6 boards and 7.5 assists.

"But Harden and Paul had tense moments with one another throughout Game 6, culminating in a verbal back-and-forth postgame that went into the locker room, sources with knowledge of the situation told The Athletic".

But this incident didn't happen in a vacuum. The dispute continued into the locker room until they were separated. Charania's report shed light on the tension brewing between Harden and Paul, revealing that Paul has been pushing for ball movement in the Rockets' offense.

However, Harden's performance in isolation as the Rockets' leading playmaker and shot creator helped the club to a 53-29 record after a slow 9-11 start.

D'Antoni has one year remaining on his current deal but is already in negotiations regarding an extension.

How the Rockets will rectify this next season is anybody's guess, considering both Harden and Paul are under contract for the foreseeable future.
