The 58-year-old is believed to have been drunk during the suspected attack, with officers reporting that they found him clutching a glass of alcohol at the scene.

A Mississippi Republican lawmaker is under fire after reportedly assaulting his wife when she undressed too slowly for sex.

Gunn calls the actions "unacceptable for anyone". Investigators also noted that McLeod had "slurred speech", and walked in a slow "zigzag pattern".

A politician allegedly punched his wife in the face during a drunken evening at home because she was taking too long to remove her clothes before sex.

The other woman told officers that Mr McLeod's wife had run into her room with a bloody face. McLeod then banged on the door and demanded for it to be opened before threatening to kill the woman's dog, according to the report.

McLeod reportedly said, "Are you kidding me?" upon finding police at his door, and began yelling into the house that the police were at the door.

Recently, Mississippi State Representative Douglas McLeod was arrested for domestic violence. Inside, McLeod's wife was shaking and upset, and claimed that her husband "just snapped". They found blood in the couple's bedroom.

The Upper West Side congressman's office said he was dehydrated and is receiving medical attention. Nadler later could be seen drinking water and eating an orange. "Appreciate everyone's concern.

"I have attempted to contact Rep. McLeod to request his resignation, if in fact, these allegations are true", House Speaker Philip Gunn said in a statement obtained by The Mississippi Clarion Ledger.

Gov. Phil Bryant also weighed in, calling allegations of abuse "reprehensible", per WJTV.

McLeod, who has been released from jail on bond, did not return a message seeking comment early Wednesday.

Some Democratic lawmakers in MS have also called on McLeod to step down. "He trusts local authorities to look into and thoroughly investigate this matter".

McLeod had allegedly punched his wife and bloodied her nose.

McLeod has represented George and Stone counties in south MS since 2012 and is unopposed for reelection this year.

Sen. David Blount, D-Miss., tweeted Tuesday, "Rep. McLeod should resign".
