After the Picard role, Stewart's most identifiable screen role has been as Professor Charles Xavier, the powerful telepath who leads a upstate NY school for mutant students in seven of Fox's X-Men films.

Then our narrator / Picard's interviewer goes on to say that something "unimaginable" happened, which may have cost Picard his faith in himself, a higher power or humanity (or possibly Starfleet) as a whole. "Your faith in yourself?", the unseen voice asks, as a man's booted feet trod through the sun-scorched Chateau Picard vineyard, a pastoral setting diehard fans will recall as part of Picard's Earth-bound origin story.

Other than the vineyard, these Star Trek: The Next Generation references may not play directly into the plot of the upcoming series, but it does indicate Star Trek: Picard's emotional ambitions.

In January, Star Trek executive producer Alex Kurtzmangave an early sense of what the tone of the series would inhabit, promising that it will feel "grounded". "Tell us. Why did you leave Starfleet, Admiral?"

They urged anyone with information on Simms' whereabouts to contact the police and "save everyone from the suspense". Simms' records vary from misdemeanor breach of peace and motor vehicle charges to risk of injury to a child.

At this time, there is not a release date for Picard, and the teaser simply states it is "coming soon".

Executive producers, among them Pulitzer Prize victor Michael Chabon, have teased the new CBS Access Show as a look at a "new chapter" in Picard's life. What's more intriguing in the first teaser isn't what it reveals about the plot of the new series, but instead the past to which it alludes. No one knows for certain why Picard ended up at his family's vineyard, or why he abandoned Starfleet, or what it will take for him to return to the life he turned his back on 15 years ago. "Discovery" recently aired its season two finale and has a third season planned, according to CBS.
