Casillas is recovering at Hospital CUF in Porto

A Porto statement said: "Iker Casillas suffered an acute myocardial infarction during morning practice this Wednesday, at the PortoGaia Sports Formation and Training Centre, in Olival. Casillas is ok, stable and the heart problem has been resolved".

The club's official Twitter account added: "Always together".

Casillas captained Spain when they won their first ever World Cup in 2010 following an extra-time victory over the Netherlands in South Africa.

Real Madrid released a statement as well.

Casillas has been Porto's number one since joining the club from Real Madrid in 2015.

During his time at Madrid he won the Champions League three times - in 2000, 2002 and 2014 - and also won five LaLiga titles and two Copa del Rey trophies. His former team mate Raul made 741 appearances for Real.

We wish Iker a speedy recovery.

PewDiePie tweeted his shock at the time, writing, "Just heard news of the devastating reports from New Zealand Christchurch".

Real Madrid led the soccer world in offering words of encouragement and support to Casillas, its longtime and "beloved" captain.

'Casillas has taught us throughout his professional career to overcome the most incredible challenges to enhance the glory of our club.

Gareth Bale and Mesut Ozil are just two of Casillas' former Real Madrid teammates who offered him support, while Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng sent love from afar.

The former Spain global is said to have undergone a cardiac catheterisation. Defending champion Porto trails Benfica by two points in the Portuguese league with two games left. The team lost to Liverpool last month in the Champions League knockout stages. The deal is for one more year with the option of another season, which could keep him at Porto until he is 40.

Casillas joins a growing list of players who have suffered heart attacks.

The most recent fatal attack came last week, when experienced Burundi global Papy Faty died after collapsing during a league match in eSwatini - formerly Swaziland - the Burundi football federation said on Friday. The heart attack is not believed to be life threatening.
