In a similar case, a 20-year-old college student from South Dakota died after falling off a cliff in Arkansas while posing for a photo.

Michelle Casey, 21, was hiking with her boyfriend Sunday at the Neahkahnie Mountain viewpoint area near Neahkahnie Beach along the northern OR coast.

Michelle Casey, a student at Oregon State University in the U.S., fell off Neahkahnie Mountain Viewpoint on Sunday, according to Oregon KOIN News. Casey had been taking photos with her boyfriend on Sunday when she slipped, falling 100 feet. She landed on a tree, which prevented her from plummeting into the Pacific Ocean. She was unconscious but breathing when she was found. Cannon Beach Rope Rescue team arrived on the scene at 10:51 a.m., but it took more than an hour to free Casey.

Following the complicated rescue, Casey was transported to Emanuel Hospital in Portland and later died.

Ms Casey's Facebook bio reads: "I am a bubbly, friendly and dorky person who loves to make people smile".

The friends last spoke on Friday.

The college student was a junior who majored in kinesiology at Oregon State's main campus in Corvallis, Steve Clark, the university's Vice President of Relations and Marketing, told the network.

They added that Casey had chosen to be an organ donor, which ultimately saved the lives of two people. "I didn't hear from her from the weekend", he said. "She adored her family, cats and dogs".

In a statement to NBC, Casey's family said that she loved being in the outdoors and played a number of sports.

"Michelle always brought people together with her bubbly personality and loving, giving heart", her family told CNN. She was studying for a degree in kinesiology at OSCU, "because she wanted to help people".

'(Michelle is) the type of person that you could be driving down the road and she'll make you roll down the windows and you'll be blaring a song, screaming it out loud'.

Casey's family told KOIN that donations in Michelle's honor can be made to Born Again Pit Bull Rescue, Cat Adoption Team, Clackamas Dogs Foundation, and Heartland Humane Society in Corvallis.
