Trump, Biden at war over union support

The former vice president told the crowd he chose to hold his first campaign rally in western Pennsylvania because, for the Democratic Party, it is among the "places where lately we've had a little bit of a struggle".

The bulk of Biden's speech was devoted to contrasting the economic bonanza for corporate America under the Trump administration, particularly from Trump's tax cut for the wealthy, to the meager results for working-class families, although he invariable referred to workers as the "middle class", as Democratic politicians have become accustomed to do over many decades in order to blur the reality of class divisions between the proletariat and the financial aristocracy. Biden revealed he favors allowing Americans not now covered by Medicare to buy into the plan, the so-called public option.

Or, worse, just MAMA. "Workers feel powerless, too often humiliated", Biden said.

"The Media (Fake News) is pushing Sleepy Joe hard. They didn't do the job". Trump tweeted Monday morning.

He also complained about Biden receiving the firefighters' union's endorsement.

"I'll never get the support of Dues Crazy union leadership, those people who rip-off their membership with ridiculously high dues, medical and other expenses while being paid a fortune". Trump went on to say despite the snub, "the members love Trump".

"Biden, despite a lot of skepticism about how he was going to start out, Joe Biden hit his marks very nicely for the beginning of his campaign", he said, mentioning a "very successful" town hall event in Pittsburgh.

However, as BuzzFeed News reported in February of this year, the entire feature was simply a hastily thrown together PR play. It will supposedly launch in under two seconds, and is less than 30MB, which is around 70MB less than the current iteration.

Before his rally Monday afternoon, Biden responded on Twitter.

Mr. Biden said he was running for three reasons: to fight for "the soul of America", to rebuild the middle class and to unify the nation.

The criticism of Biden, a centrist who spent eight years as President Barack Obama's No. 2, is an early glimpse of the sort of attacks he is likely to face from his more liberal rivals in a race that will be heavily influenced by the party's progressive activists.

"I'm sick of this President badmouthing unions", he said.

In his speech, Mr. Biden checked off a few boxes on the liberal wish list, including raising the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour and calling health care "a right, not a privilege". Texas hasn't elected a Democrat president since Jimmy Carter in 1976.

The Republican National Committee also ripped Mr. Biden's record, saying he is "going to have a tough time explaining to Pennsylvanians why they would want to go back to the Biden-Obama economy".
