Xiaomi will soon sell its products through vending machines in India

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has announced a new way for its buyers to purchase smartphones and mobile accessories, by installing Mi Express Kiosk vending machines. Xiaomi's top executives Lin Bin and Lei Jun were at the unveiling of the Mi Express Kiosk. The company has so far not detailed out the locations of these vending machines but one that is active now is in Manyata Tech Park, Bengaluru. Xiaomi will be selling its smartphones and accessories via these vending machines.

The machine has a slot for your credit/debit card and will also accept cash and UPI. These Mi Express Kiosks will be strategically located in public places with high footfalls like tech parks, metro stations, airports, and shopping malls. In addition to the company's Mi Homes, Mi Studios and Mi Experience Stores, the Chinese company's now introduced the Mi Express Kiosks across India.

Xiaomi had started its India journey as an online brand only in 2014. However, this concept has reportedly been in China for a year now. Xiaomi recently launched two new budget smartphones in the Indian market.

Also, the Apple TV app features a new, dedicated "Kids" section, curated to showcase shows and movies for children of all ages. Since Samsung is the leading manufacturer of premium TVs, this partnership was inevitable.

"Mi Express Kiosks serve as a highly effective new retail initiative for consumers and Mi Fans to easily access and buy Xiaomi products instantly in offline markets", the company said in a statement.

Xiaomi India managing director Manu Kumar Jain said that India is the largest market outside China and is now the fastest growing market among all sizeable countries.

According to research firm IDC, Xiaomi led the shipment tally with 30.6 per cent share in the March 2019 quarter, followed by Samsung (22.3 per cent), Vivo (13 per cent), Oppo (7.6 per cent) and Realme (6 per cent). While the company sells its popular smartphones via flash sales, we don't think the company will be able to cope up with the demand for smartphones like Redmi Note 7 Pro via these kiosks.
