American tennis prodigy Cori "Coco" Gauff is living proof that age is just a number. "[My first memories] were of watching Serena playing at Wimbledon and she won, though I don't remember which year, she has won so many times", she added. Nadal was unhappy about being seeded below Federer in a reversal of their world rankings but ultimately it has made no difference, with both in the opposite half to top seed Novak Djokovic.

At 15 years and 122 days, Gauff secured her place not only in the first-round draw at the All England Club by beating Belgian Greet Minnen, 6-1, 6-1, but also a place in the venerable Grand Slam tournament's record books.

Cori Gauff openly stated that she would love to face Serena Williams.

Born in Atlanta, Gauff moved to Florida to begin pursuing a tennis career when she was around 7 years old.

Gauff, who won the French Open junior title in 2018, was given a wildcard into the Wimbledon qualifying event and took advantage in spectacular fashion.

"She's very special, with the two major qualities you can not teach", Serena Williams' longtime coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, has said.

She has credited Williams, and her sister Serena, for being the inspiration behind her choice to take up tennis, saying in an interview to the official Wimbledon website "they're the reason why I wanted to pick up the tennis racquet. That's very important to reach the top of the game".

The last entrant under 16 was Britain's Laura Robson, who was 15 in 2009.
