La Roja hgot off to the ideal start as Sergio Ramos opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a header towards the bottom corner after rising the highest inside the box to meet Isco's cross from a short-corner.

Faroe Islands won a corner of their own and Klaemint Olsen showed good reactions to divert the ball past Kepa Arrizabalaga and into the net.

Midfielder Isco fired a shot against the post which bounced off goalkeeper Teitur Gestsson and trickled into the net to be given as an own goal, while Spain left back Jose Gaya scored the best goal of the game in the 71st minute with a classy chip.

It was a special night for Ramos. With 122 wins, the captain of Real Madrid has topped the record set by Casillas (121). Cristiano Ronaldo, the closest active player on the list, lags behind with 94.

The Real Madrid defender went into the game tied with former Spain and Blancos team-mate Iker Casillas in worldwide wins, with 121 since making his debut for the Roja back in 2005.

Oil jumps 2% helped by Falih comment on prices
Many oil pundits think the US crude benchmark will be next to break crucial support, falling below $50 by this week. The two sides will discuss its policy at a highly anticipated meeting later this month or in early July.

Xavi has won the third most games with 100, closely followed by Andres Iniesta who has been victorious 96 times on the global stage.

But, at 34, time is running out for the Juventus forward and it's likely that Ramos will hold on to his record for many years to come.

Spain top the group with nine points from three games while Sweden are second with seven after a straightforward 3-0 win at home to Malta.

Ramos earned the first of his 163 Spanish caps against China in 2005 and will also go on to overtake Casillas as his country's record appearance-maker against the Faroe Islands when the teams are due to meet again in Gijon in September.
