Adobe trained AI to detect facial manipulation in Photoshop

In the video shown below, the researchers showed the actual capabilities of the AI in determining a warped Photoshop image, what it thinks are the edits made to the image, and its suggested undos. To counter the epidemic of fake news, the company began developing tools that can detect if the photo is photoshopped.

Photoshop is undoubtedly the primary tool to makeover or to change your photos and imagery quickly.

This is far from the first time Adobe has come up with ways to try and counter misuse of its products.

Even though it is at the early stages, the method works fairly well, especially compared to human observation. Photoshop already has a built-in image recognition tool to prevent scanning bank notes and other critical documents.

Adobe has, reportedly, took this step in order to reduce the kinds of problems that its ' Face Aware Liquify' tool brings to the world.

Photoshop has undoubtedly changed expectations of modern beauty, but a new research project could help pull back the tech and help make faked images more honest. As a collaborative effort between researchers from Adobe and UC Berkeley, a tool has been created using trained AI that can detect manipulations done to facial features using Adobe Photoshop.

The researchers have published their work in a new paper titled, "Detecting Photoshopped Faces by Scripting Photoshop", explaining how the AI detects the use of a Photoshop tool called "Face Aware Liquify", which not only can make alterations to facial features, but also can make changes to facial expressions.

US Open: Rory McIlroy hoping to challenge leaders on final day
Woods was 4-over for his round through the first six holes, the easiest stretch on the course, though he went on to birdie Nos. Woodland makes the miracle par, and Rose - who was the only thing colder than the seaside weather - smoothly made his birdie.

How Does It Work?

.

The team trained a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to recognize the altered faces by creating a training set of images that applied the Face Aware Liquify on thousands of pictures on the internet.

Adobe is not planning to make a commercial version of such a tool.

"Trust in what we see is increasingly important in a world where image editing has become ubiquitous-fake content is a serious and increasingly pressing issue".

While it's a useful tool for fixing inconvenient squints or grimaces in family photos, the potential for misuse is also present.

On testing, it was discovered that while human eyes had the option to pass judgment on the adjusted face 53 percent of the time, the prepared neural network instrument accomplished outcomes as high as 99 percent. When place aside to the test, the neural network detected altered photos up to Ninety 9 p.c of the time.
