Indiana Man Offered Teens $9M to “Rape and Murder” Woman

Hoffman was shot in the back of the head and pushed into a river near a hiking trail outside Anchorage on June 2. Authorities believe 18-year-old Denali Brehmer and 4 other teenagers carried out the crime after Brehmer was promised $9 million to kill a person and provide evidence by 21-year-old IN man named Darin Schilmiller. For help, Brehmer reached out to recruit Kayden McIntosh, 16, and Caleb Leyland, 19, to help her carry out "Tyler's" instructions to murder Hoffman. She had been bound with duct tape and shot in the back of the head.

Hoffman was brought to Thunderbird Falls by Brehmer and McIntosh in a truck borrowed from Leyland under the ruse they were going on a hike near the Eklutna River, the statement said. On Friday, June 7, Brehmer was arrested after admitting to detectives that she directed McIntosh to shoot Hoffman. The pair destroyed some of the victim's items.

Leyland, who allegedly let Brehmer and McIntosh borrow his vehicle to commit the murder, told police he was to receive $500,000 from Brehmer. "Schilmiller offered Brehmer nine or more million dollars to carry out the murder and to have photographs and/or videos of the murder sent to him". In exchange, he claimed the teens "would receive a significant sum of money".

In addition, Schilmiller admitted he and Brehmer discussed murdering another person after Hoffman, "but that the plan was ultimately abandoned", the documents said. The victim was described as Brehmer's best friend.

Police would not reveal a motive at the time but disturbing new details have emerged in the case following the arrest of a 21-year-old in man.

They then allegedly drove to a park, called Hoffman's family and said they were dropping her off at the park.

KTVA reported that Brehmer told investigators she met Schilmiller online and they had been chatting for several months.

At one point during their online relationship, Schilmiller also instructed Brehmer to sexually assault an "8-year or 9-year-old" and a 15-year-old and to send those videos to him.

Schools will reportedly remain closed until June 22 as a precautionary measure to help manage and contain the crisis. Vardhan assured the aggrieved children and their families that the necessary assistance and care will be provided.

The assaults took place the the day after Hoffman's death at the behest of Schilmiller, who told police that he blackmailed her, The Anchorage Daily News reported, citing the indictment.

The Anchorage Daily News reports the victim's family has said she has a learning disability and functions at a younger developmental age than 19. "That's all she wanted, was just to be her friend". She shouldn't have had people that wanted to plot against her.

On Tuesday, federal prosecutors announced the arrest of Schilmiller on child pornography charges.

The six indicted individuals have now been charged with murder in the first degree, conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree and two counts of murder in the second degree.

A motive is unclear but the murder does appear to have links to child porn allegations against Schilmiller, who is also is accused of directing Brehmer to record the sexual exploitation of other girls. Brehmer additionally faces one count of tampering with physical evidence and McIntosh faces four counts of tampering with physical evidence. Darin Schilmiller will be extradited to Alaska where he will hopefully spend most of the remainder of his life in prison.

Regarding the latter three charges, Schilmiller is charged with receipt of child pornography and coercion of a minor, while Brehmer faces the distribution portion of the charge. He directed the recording of girls by Brehmer, FBI Agent Jessica Hais said in a criminal complaint.

Federal and state officials held a press conference Tuesday afternoon, shortly after the federal indictment against Brehmer was released, and after three Alaska-based defendants were arraigned and pleaded not guilty to state murder charges.
