According to TMZ, Grande performed in Pittsburgh on June 12th, and during "Thank U, Next", she got choked up while singing the line about Miller. Grande's latest tour stop was in Miller's hometown of Pittsburgh, and performing there appeared to be especially hard for her. Grande and Mac dated for two years, from 2016 until 2018, before Mac died from an overdose.

This performance was part of her Sweetener tour that started back in Albany in March.

Likewise, during "Thank U, Next" - which features the lyric "Wish I could say, "Thank you" to Malcolm / 'Cause he was an angel" - she began crying. The singer also reportedly played late Miller's music on the speakers, thereby paying a tribute to him.
