"Aston Villa and Club Brugge have agreed the transfer of Brazilian striker Wesley, subject to a work permit and worldwide clearance", Villa said in a statement. German side Bayer Leverkusen and Italian side A outfit Lazio were also credited with interest in Wesley.

The 22-year-old striker impressed in the Belgian top flight last season, scoring 13 goals and also netted a couple of strikes in the Champions League for Club Brugge.

Aston Villa have now confirmed they have struck a deal with Club Brugge to complete the signing in an announcement on their website.

The Juiz de Fora native scored 17 goals and picked up 10 assists in 48 appearances in all competitions for Club Brugge past year, including finding the back of the net twice in six Champions League games.

The Club Brugge striker has always been linked with a move to St James' Park, with it once considered a guarantee that the 22-year-old would either be joining us this summer, or completing a switch from the Belgian top-flight to the Italian Serie A with SS Lazio.

He also scored the winning goal scored against RB Salzburg in the first leg of the last-32 in the Europa League last season, but saw his club bounced by a 4-0 result in the second leg.
