Atletico Madrid aim to sign Hector Bellerin from Arsenal by offering Vitolo as part of the deal

Diego Simeone is said to be keen on bolstering his ageing defence this summer and Bellerin, despite now recovering from a knee injury, has emerged as a primary target.

It is a odd one because of the injury to Bellerin but that does not appear to bother the Spanish giants and they remain keen on the 24-year-old. Bellerin has not played since January, when he underwent an operation on the anterior cruciate ligaments in his left knee after being carried off on a stretcher against Chelsea.

Bellerin is expected to be fit for the start of the next campaign after missing the majority of last season through injury.

Bellerin was the subject of interest from Italian giants Juventus previous year, although the Gunners' £50 million valuation put them off, and the Telegraph suggest that that valuation will not have changed.

Bellerin came through the ranks at Barcelona before signing for Arsenal aged 16, racking up 181 first-team appearances.

Though he did not mention the Meng case, the remark immediately renewed speculation that some sort of deal could be struck. But Canada's foreign minister, Chrystia Freeland, said dropping the charges would set a "dangerous precedent".

The Albanian worldwide, 25, is a reported target for Manchester United but it is thought Atleti are also keeping tabs on the defender. But the Spanish side is willing to offer midfield gem Vitolo in exchange for the Arsenal defender.

The versatile forward, who can play through the middle or on the wing, has managed just one La Liga goal in two seasons at the Wanda Metropolitano.

However, Arsenal boss, Unai Emery is demanding around £50million for the Spaniard.

Arsenal are targeting a return to the Champions League, and they need to keep hold of their better players in order to achieve that.
