It was auctioned off at Yankee Stadium on Saturday along with other items related to the legendary slugger and was previously owned by a private collector, who wished to remain anonymous.

"Babe's collection has remained largely unknown to the general public and we felt it was time to bring these awesome pieces of his life to light", Linda Ruth Tosetti, Ruth's granddaughter, said in a news release.

It's been more than a century since Babe Ruth started his baseball career, but the Bambino is still breaking records.

A jersey worn by Yankees icon Babe Ruth around 1928-30 sold for $5.64 million, a record price for sports memorabilia, during the Babe Ruth Collection auction at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, according to Hunt Auctions.

Neither player earned any break points during the remainder of the set, and Berrettini served out the opener 6-4 after 33 minutes of play.

"The legacy and significance of Babe Ruth to the game of baseball and American popular culture is unmatched by any other figure in the history of this country", Hunt Auctions president David Hunt said in a statement.

The Babe knows how to bring in a buck.

Ruth's 22-year career ended a few years after his jersey is dated, in 1935, with a then-record 714 home runs, .342 batting average, 2,213 RBI's.

The jersey does not bear pinstripes, it's a road gray jersey, but it does have "YANKEES" emblazoned across the front, which only existed from 1927 to 1930. "This is from that late [1920s], that "Murderers" Row'-era", Hunt said. It is widely considered as one of the best teams in history.
