Baker Mayfield Pays Up on Rookie of the Year Bet With Saquon Barkley

Mayfield put up a strong Rookie of the Year case for the award following his strong finish to the season after the departure of Hue Jackson, but Barkley earned the honor after setting a National Football League record for most yards from scrimmage by a rookie. Barkley revealed at the time that the victor of the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award would receive a chain from the loser. Mayfield did not reveal how much he paid to commission Barkley's prize.

At the Greater Cleveland Sports Awards in February, Mayfield joked, "It'll say "quads" on it". We've got a little bet.

It looks like Barkley will have some new jewels for his collection. "With Baker Mayfield, you never know what you're going to get".

Unbeknownst to the rest of the world, Barkley and Mayfield had a little side bet going over who would win the award.

Apparently the two made a bet on who would be the 2019 Pepsi Rookie NFL Rookie of the Year.

"It's about a friendship, and the love that we have for each other".

In addition to his relationships with Barkley and Beckham, Mayfield also is close friends with Giants receiver Sterling Shepard, his former teammate at the University of Oklahoma.

Barkley, 22, seems pleased with the finished product. The New York Giants running back posted a photo of Mayfield holding up a gold chain with an iced out pendant that spells "Quads", which is a nod to Barkley's monstrous legs and also his Quad Squad Challenge.

"Yeah, I knew it was going to be a really close race, " said Barkley at the NFL Honors show.
