Matthijs de Ligt is one step away from joining Paris Saint Germain.

Ajax's style and swagger has earned plaudits from all around, but it's De Ligt who has always been the centre of attention in the Dutch capital - courting interest from the likes of Manchester United, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, and more importantly Barcelona.

Lions trading TE Michael Roberts to the Patriots
With spring practices wrapped up and training camp on the horizon, the New England Patriots finally swung a deal for a tight end. He played in 15 games as a rookie but was used primarily as a blocking tight end, catching just four passes for 46 yards.

The two men tasked with convincing de Ligt to move over to Catalonia are his former Ajax teammate and friend Frenkie de Jong and goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, who himself looks set to leave the Spanish champions. The Blaugrana were even willing to pay de Ligt a yearly salary of €6 Million to do so. In fact, until very recently, the Spanish champions had been nailed on to sign the Dutch worldwide, before PSG upped the ante by matching the 75 million offered to Ajax by Barça and throwing down a reported salary to the player which was double that he'd been promised for a LaLiga move. According to Dutch newspaper "De Telegraaf" the Dutch centre back's girlfriend and mother-in-law, Aneekee Molenaar and Christiane Zillikens respectively, have recently made the trip over to Paris whilst de Ligt was in action during the Nations League "Final Four" tournament.

De Ligt's agent, Mino Raiola, is now again free to negotiate with Juventus after a ban imposed by the Italian FA was overturned on Thursday. However, as it stands, the future of the Ajax captain remains unclear.
