UPDATE Woman child located after young girl found dead west of Lukeville

Based on the information from the women, they believe the girl was 7 years old, and also from India. Her body was discovered 17 miles west of Lukeville, just over the US-Mexico border on Wednesday, the local media reported.

Customs and Border Protection, the agency that oversees the border, said temperatures on Wednesday reached 108 degrees in the remote desert region where the group was dropped off.

Officials said Thursday agents encountered two women a day earlier who said they had traveled to the United States from India with another woman and two children. It is believed that every year nearly ten thousand people from India are cheated by agents who promise to get them into the U.S. and drop them off at the border.

CBP described the terrain where the young girl was found as "rugged desert wilderness" and said anyone there would have "little to no resources".

It has also blocked imports of Canadian canola seed and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said he fears further retaliation. A day earlier, Freeland discussed trade with US trade czar Robert Lighthizer and China with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Though helicopters were sent out to search for the remaining migrants, they have not been found. Border Patrol agents did identify footprints, however, that they believe indicate the two remaining migrants crossed back into Mexico.

"Within hours, they discovered the little girl's remains, which were recovered by the Pima County Sheriff's Department", Border Patrol said in their statement.

"Our sympathies are with this little girl and her family", Tucson Chief Patrol Agent Roy Villareal was quoted as saying by CNN. The mother and child re-entered the United States around midnight on Wednesday and surrendered to Border Patrol.

The numbers of Indians crossing USA borders has steadily risen in recent years. They added that Mexico has established a working group with a number of Central American countries such as Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador to coordinate their efforts. "In most cases these smugglers never cross the border themselves in order to avoid apprehension". The CBP and Mexican authorities searched the area for any associated persons but no additional members of the group were located on either side of the border.
