Shortly after he was shot, Ortiz was taken to Abel Gonzalez Center for Advanced Medicine in Santo Domingo, where he underwent his first surgery.

The 10-time All-Star underwent another surgery on Monday and is now recovering in the ICU, where he'll remain for several days.

His wife said that Ortiz, who was reportedly recovering from organ damage as a result of the shooting, underwent a second surgery upon arriving at the hospital on Monday night and is in stable condition as of Tuesday morning.

"We all remember in 2013, when we needed David Ortiz the most, he was there for us in late April".

Meanwhile, Lopez, a close friend of Ortiz's who acts as both a spokesperson and personal media assistant, told Rivera that the 43-year-old "even flashed that smile" while in hospital.

David Ortiz's wife has finally broken her silence on the senseless shooting of her husband in the Dominican Republic over the weekend.

Ortiz began his major league career by playing six seasons for the Minnesota Twins (1997-2002), but his career blossomed after he joined the Red Sox.

The former player was also celebrated at Fenway Park with a moment of reflection before Monday's game. The Red Sox retired his number the following year. "That's the way we see it".

Grizzlies name Bucks' Jenkins as new head coach
In fact, Jenkins becomes the third Budenholzer protege to land a full-time gig, joining Kenny Atkinson and Quin Snyder before him. Budenholzer, of course, earned his shot as a head coach after 18 seasons working under Gregg Popovich in San Antonio.

A suspect has been identified, but the motive in the shooting remains unclear. Garcia will make his first court appearance later Tuesday, the Dominican attorney general's office told Anaridis Rodriguez of WBZ-TV Boston.

There's no denying David Ortiz left a big impact on a lot of people.

Jhoel Lopez, a Dominican television host, was shot in the leg, and his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Police are searching for a second suspect.

The gunman is in police custody.

Boston Red Sox's Pedro Martinez and David Ortiz laugh during the pregame ceremony to honor Ortiz's retirement before his last regular season home game at Fenway Park, Oct. 2, 2016 in Boston.

The former slugger, affectionately known as Big Papi, won three World Series titles with the Red Sox and clubbed countless clutch home runs.

Two others also were wounded in the attack.
