Family in controversial Phoenix arrest video speaks out

Dravon Ames and Iesha Harper are filing a $10 million lawsuit against the Phoenix Police Department after they ran down on the couple and their small children with guns drawn.

In the video, officers can be heard screaming and cursing at the couple in front of their children to "put your fucking hands up".

Another officer is heard yelling at Ames to put his hands up and that he would "put a cap" in his head.

"My hands are holding my babies!" The video showed the officer kick Ames's leg out from under him as he was standing handcuffed and up against a police cruiser.

"I was very much in fear for my life, in fear for my family's lives", Ames said, speaking at a press conference Monday with Harper, supporters and family attorneys. "I thought we were all going to be executed".

Ames said with the officers still working, it feels like a "slap in the face". Chief Jeri Williams said body cameras will be rolled out faster for all officers and that is expected to be done in August. The investigation is ongoing.

"Every time I look a that video its extremely unsettling", Chief Williams said in an interview that aired Sunday on ABC15. It was completely inappropriate and clearly unprofessional. They called for them to be fired. Phoenix police released a report regarding the incident on Friday afternoon.

Williams said she will oversee an internal investigation into the incident. "I didn't like that, so I don't accept her apology". Harper says her daughter is traumatized after the incident. She said she has always taught her older daughter to trust police officers, but the girl "had to find out herself that she can not depend on police".

SCOTUS Refers Oregon Same-Sex Wedding Case Back To State Courts
The agency agreed the Kleins had violated the public accommodation law and awarded the Bowman-Cryers $135,000. The Oregon appellate ruling came before the court's decision in Phillips' case.

Davon Ames and Harper said after the incident, "we have to try our best to teach them that not all cops are bad". "It still hurts. It haunts me", Harper said. "This shouldn't have happened over a baby doll". "That still doesn't justify their actions, period". In a statement of facts released by Phoenix police over the incident, police reported that the vehicle drove off as an officer approached it. There were 44 officer-involved shootings - the most in the country, and more than double the previous year.

"I am with everyone in the community who's angry, who's outraged", Williams told NBC News.

"So, there are some people who think a lot of things".

Phoenix police say Meyer is still on duty but is on a "non-enforcement assignment".

Then, they berated, assaulted, and threatened to shoot them because their little girl took a doll out of the Family Dollar Store. They say officers never turned on their lights or indicated they should pull over. No one was charged with shoplifting because the property was returned and store employees didn't want the case prosecuted, police said.

A bystander reportedly captured the footage outside an apartment complex after the family left a Family Dollar store location back in May but the video went viral last friday.

Civil rights activist Reverend Jarrett Maupin claims the police department is not being honest and needs to apologize to the family, not just to the public.
