George Clooney to direct and star in Netflix's 'Good Morning, Midnight' adaptation

The streaming giant today announced that the Oscar victor is now in pre-production on an adaptation of the acclaimed novel Good Morning, Midnight by author Lily Brooks-Dalton. Clooney will also star in the project, which has a script by The Revenant and Overlord co-writer Mark L. Smith.

Assuming everything goes according to plan, Netflix says production will start on the project in October.

"Grant and I couldn't be more excited to be involved with this incredible project", said Clooney in a statement.

It's not clear if the Netflix project is a one-off movie or a series, but either way, we are keen to see how this rolls out.

George Clooney is still known best to casual moviegoers for his on camera roles in movies such as Syriana and Ocean's Eleven.

Clooney will play a lonely Arctic scientist called Augustine who tries to make contact with an astronaut on board a spacecraft trying to return home in the post-apocalyptic tale. Past Smokehouse titles include Oscar-winning film Argo, Good Night and Good Luck (which picked up six Oscar nominations including Best Picture and a Best Director nom for Clooney), The Ides of March, Money Monster, August: Osage County, The American and Suburbicon.

The as-yet untitled adaptation marks George Clooney's first feature film for a streaming service. At its core, this is a story about human nature, and one that I know our global audiences will fall in love with, just like I did when I read it, ' Stuber stated.

When news of a catastrophic event arrives at his remote research center in the Arctic and the researchers are asked to evacuate, he insists on staying behind and soon embarks on a mission to save Mission Specialist Sullivan, who was aboard the Aether space ship when it crashed on its return flight from Jupiter. Shortly after the others have gone, Augustine discovers a mysterious child, Iris, and realizes that the airwaves have gone silent. In any case, this is one to keep an eye on.
