Pygmy possums' bodies generally grow up to 2.5 inches - roughly the same as a Huntsman spider's body.

On June 15, 2019, Justine Latton and her husband checked into a lodge in Mount Field National Park where they saw something that they were not expecting.

Justine Latton shared the unbelievable photo to the Tasmanian Insects and Spiders Facebook page, where it was shared over 6,400 times and was met with a deluge of comments as people expressed shock and awe at the enormous arachnid's hearty appetite.

Pygmy possums only grow to around 12cm and weigh between 10g and 50g. He said it was more common to see huntsman eat small birds, frogs and geckos.

Tasmania is home to two types of pygmy possums - the little pygmy and the eastern pygmy.
