Instagram Is Down: Facebook’s Photo Sharing Service Faces Another Major Outage

The outage apparently was first reported at around 2.30pm Pacific Time Thursday, or about 7.30am AEST Friday.

Down Detector, an online service that monitors network outages, registered a big spike in complaints shortly after 7am this morning.

According to DownDetector.com, the outages were concentrated in northern Europe and Britain, as well as in several parts of the United States and Brazil.

A number of problems were also reported in the U.S., particularly on the east coast around NY.

The issue lasted for about three hours.

As with every Instagram crash, thousands of people have taken to other social media sites to share their reactions.

CNET has reached out to Instagram for comment and any additional details about cause of the outage.

Facebook didn't immediately respond to questions about the cause of the outage, but Instagram acknowledged the outage with a post on Twitter.

Given the wide scale of the outage, it suggests the issue was with Instagram's servers or the underlying infrastructure that allows users to gain access to the company's network.

Instagram has since tweeted out a statement following the worldwide outage, saying that they're working swiftly to get it up and running again: "We're aware that some people are having trouble accessing their Instagram accounts".
