Lakers reportedly intend to pursue Raptors star Leonard

Just days after the Raptors won the NBA championship in six games over the Golden State Warriors, Nurse said Sunday a deal was "just about done" to make him the coach of the Canadian national team.

Kawhi Leonard did what he was supposed to do during his first - and possibly last - season with the Toronto Raptors. He led the Raptors to their first championship in franchise history by averaging 30.5 points and 9.1 rebounds while shooting 49% from the field in 24 playoff games. They'll look for a star to pair with the center and LeBron James when free agency begins June 30. If so, Leonard has been linked to the Los Angeles Clippers - not the Lakers.

Leonard is an unrestricted free agent and it seems as if he intends to re-sign with the Raptors on a short-term contract. But teammate Fred VanVleet believes there is nothing more the franchise can do to convince Leonard.

He had a brutally honest response.

"If it's enough then it's enough". We would love for him to be back. He did what he was supposed to do.

Romelu Lukaku 'agrees' terms with Serie A outfit
The Argentina global was stripped of the club's captaincy in February before refusing to play in a Europa League clash. In my opinion yes. "I have heard talk of Lukaku going to Inter and I think he'd be devastating there".

VanVleet on Kawhi's free agency: "There's nothing more we can do".

"As we gather to celebrate the first National Basketball Association championship in Raptors' history, I encourage everyone in our city to show our support, pride, love, and appreciation for this incredible team", reads the proclamation he signed. We've done our job.

"I just want to play and just let people remember that I played hard at both ends of the floor, I was a victor, and that's basically it", Leonard told reporters earlier this month. It's going to be a wild summer.

Leonard is one of several star players hitting the open market.
