He revealed the news on Facebook and reports he's already begun treatment.

Mustaine's statement reads: "I've been diagnosed with throat cancer". ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Unfortunately, this requires that we cancel most shows this year.

Members of the metal community took to Twitter to send Dave their well wishes, with thrash metal band Overkill writing: "Sending positive vibes to @DaveMustaine who has just been diagnosed with throat cancer".

Megadeth has released 15 records, starting with 1985's "Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!"

The Megadeth frontman took to the band's official blog to share more about his diagnosis on Monday.
