Seeing Labour MPs - including some of his close allies - quit the party in February had a profound effect on him, as did the terrible showing in the European elections.

"There are Labour MPs now saying the they wished they voted for the Prime Minister's deal".

Shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry said those results boosted the case for another referendum - an outcome that Mr Corbyn has said is "some way off".
