Ousted Egyptian president Morsi collapses in court, dies

Ousted former Egyptian Islamist president Mohamed Mursi died on Monday after he fainted in court following a hearing, state television reported.

"The body has been transferred to a hospital and necessary procedures are under way".

Morsi had been on trial for espionage and treason when he blacked out in the courtroom, reports said. However, he ruled for only a year after being elected to the post before he was toppled by the military following mass protests in 2013.

He was serving lengthy sentences on convictions of killing protesters in 2012, espionage involving Qatar, and a jailbreak.

Bitcoin surpasses $9,000 setting another yearly record
As ever, it's hard to pinpoint exactly what is causing the cryptocurrency's price to rise as it has over the past few months. Another cryptocurrency from the top ten that saw tremendous growth last week was Litecoin (LTC) - up over 20 percent.

A panel of British MPs and lawyers warned in 2018 that Mr Morsi faced an early death because of the poor conditions in which he was being held. He became president in 2012, and was ousted over mass protests on July 3, 2013.

The Western-educated engineer was being held in the infamous Tora prison and had been in solitary confinement for more than three years, according to the DRP.

He served just one year of a four-year term, while the organisation to which he belonged, the Muslim Brotherhood, has since been outlawed.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan paid tribute to Morsi on the news of the former Egyptian president's death.
